John McCain has conceded that Barack Obama has won the election for president of the United States.
Senator McCain told supporters in his home state of Arizona that he had called his Democratic rival to congratulate him shortly after most polls closed.
McCain said he told Obama he admired him for his ability to inspire the hopes of millions of Americans. McCain said he would do whatever he could to help Mr. Obama to bring the country together and restore prosperity and defend America’s security.
