I get at least five emails a week asking “Trucker Steve do you use a GPS and if so what brand should I get?” When I get this question it reminds me of a episode of The Office, where branch manager Michael follows directions from his GPS device — despite the warnings of his passenger — and drives his car into a lake.
That turns out to be art imitating life. These things actually seem to happen fairly often. Not long ago the safety department shared a similar story with us. A driver for a undisclosed carrier was following routing that directed him underneath a low over pass. Against his better judgment he continued on, topping the trailer. In closing the company stated “GPS units are now banned at our company and any use of them will be handled in similar fashion as a radar detector.” I Agree 100 %, to many drivers have allowed modern technology to put them in a state to become complacent.
Looks like you might have to add using your GPS to the list of things that the experts tell you not to do while driving. According to a new study, using GPS while behind the wheel is actually more distracting and less safe than unfolding a paper map and using it to find your way. The survey found that in 10% of cases, drivers would wait until they were on the road to program their GPS, and about 13% would rely solely on their GPS to get them to their destination, rendering them completely oblivious to the world around them. But what do
you think? Has GPS made you feel safer or less safe behind the wheel?
This is absolutely the best way to explain twitter.com the micro blogging social network that is sweeping the interwebs and making cell phone companies regret unlimited texting packages. I would recommend signing up if you enjoy hearing mundane babel or simply knowing that you are creating a nightmare for your cell phone provider.(which personally I think is fucking awesome) Kind of reminds me of those assholes who take more food off the buffet then they can eat simply because they’re going to get what they “paid for”. I would appreciate it if you helped me fuck my cell phone provider as they’re a bunch of useless bastards

Finding secure parking has always been a extreme challenge in the trucking industry. More recently states have been shutting down safe areas to park for drivers due to limited funds. This has forced drivers to park in what could be a unsafe place, which is bad, very bad!
Please help by signing a petition to help get more “secure” parking for all drivers .“Jason’s Law” in an effort to encourage lawmakers to support legislation for secure parking options for the nation’s truck drivers.
Family and friends of Jason Rivenburg started circulating the petition after the 35-year-old trucker from Fultonham, NY, was fatally shot on March 5 while parked at an unlit gas station off Interstate 26, south of Columbia. Three suspects have been charged in the crime.
First I would like to thank you for watching this video “Big Rig Trucker ep:2″ it means a lot to me. The video was captured about two months ago, I should have produced this earlier but got sick and lost my drive. I will work hard to produce this on a much more regular basis.
This episode captures one h3ll of a trip that Sean Sutherland and I had across I 90/ I 94. It was really trying for the both of us, Sean had a sever ear infection that started to bleed, I was at the time getting over a cold myself. During the trip I had multiple tire failures and breakdowns, coupled with the many near accidents we where able to avoid lets just say we where happy to see the trip completed at the end. However, I learned a lot along the way, even with the bad I would do it all over again!!

I read that prosecutors opted against filing charges against a trucker who fatally shot a burglar entering the trucker’s parked rig in West Knox County.”Our recommendation is not to charge that gentleman,” said John Gill, special counsel to Knox County District Attorney General Randy Nichols.
The trucker, Richard Vance Allen, 68, of North Carolina shot James Edward Hodges Jr., 34, of Loudon about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Gill said he was unsure if the trucker had a permit to carry the handgun he used in the shooting while his rig was parked at a warehouse parking lot at 10720 Lexington Road.”We weren’t concerned with that,” Gill said. “We were concerned whether the homicide was justified or not. We determined that it was.”
“Can I carry a gun in my truck” is one of the most frequently asked questions I get. Here’s the truth: According to the U.S. Constitution, you have the right to bear arms and there’s no rule in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) prohibiting you from carrying a gun in your truck. But, depending on what state you’re driving in, you may not be able to legally carry a gun in your tractor. Remember, simply having a concealed gun permit in your home state doesn’t exempt you from all other state laws.
For example, say you have a valid permit to carry a gun in your home state. As long as you’re in your home state, it’s perfectly legal to carry your gun. But, once you leave your home state, your gun permit usually isn’t valid anywhere else. To make matters worse, not all states allow you to be in possession of a handgun at all and many consider carrying a gun a felony. Being convicted of a felony while operating a commercial vehicle will suspend your CDL for 12 months. Also, don’t forget to check with your company/lease company to see if they have a weapons policy. Violating an internal company policy can cost you your job regardless of whether you’ve violated a state law or not.
A truck driver who appears in a YouTube clip in which he jumps up and down on his seat and frequently takes his hands off the wheel while driving on a Belgian motorway has caused uproar in the country. At one point the man, who is thought to be from Romania, can even be seen steering the vehicle with his foot.
The Belgian Deputy Minister for Mobility, Etienne Schouppe, has said he wants to locate the driver and prosecute him. Mr Schouppe says the behaviour shown in the clip is enough to warrant the immediate withdrawal of the man’s licence.
This guy might be crazy but you have to give him a score of 10 for his dance moves.
