Abolish split speed limits

Truckers may be able to put a little more pedal to the metal as Senate Republicans inserted language into the state transportation budget allowing vehicles and noncommercial buses over 8,000 pounds when empty to travel 65 miles per hour instead of the current 55.

During deliberations in the Senate’s transportation committee, the speed increase was added to the $7.6 billion state transportation budget, which is expected to be approved during a Senate floor vote. Ohio House members voted with a out come of 22-12.

At this point I guess I can come out and say it already. The law makers in OHIO seem to be getting their shit together on this one. For years they have been asleep behind the wheel while drivers and safety experts all agree that having a split speed limit is fucking dangerous. Not only that but is a major contributor to highway congestion. Kudos to OHIO for taking Californians dick out of its ass. If OHIO is willing what could happen next California straightening up? Uh, yeah alright,

  1. I agree with the fact that with the split speed limits can cause accidents. people already drive 15 to 20 mph below the damn limit so thats just bullshit. the country needs to get on the ball and make the freeways less conjested. great blog Steve keep them coming. Also give rooster pink thong back, he wont stop crying about it.

  2. I’m happy to hear there might be a speed bump for trucks but shouldn’t it be reversed? Loaded trucks get the speed bump instead of the unloaded ones? I could be wrong but doesn’t an unloaded truck take longer to stop than a loaded one? If I’m wrong please correct me.

    Thank you
    Thaddeus

Nah it just reads kind of funny. To clarify, all trucks loaded or empty will be raised to 65 mph. Buses over 8000 unloaded is what I was saying. Thanks for the comment brother.

Illinois is working on this as well, according to ilga.gov (the Illinois General Assembly website) Illinois House Bill 3956 and Senate Bill 1467 will abolish the 55mph speed limit for commercial vehicles with some limitations.

Thanks for the post ROOGIE, yeah I heard about that about 2/3 months ago on some drivers video blog. I was hopeful but kinda weary if it would go through. I think the latest news gives ILL and the others grounds to push it further. Talk with you later Mail Man! LOL

  4. Steve,
Will be Shocked, (SHOCKED I SAY!) if SlowHio follows through with this. The revenues lost when they balanced the speed limits on the Toll Roads must have been crippling.

I can’t see the Socialist Republik of Kalifornia EVER letting go of that cash cow, they would have to rebuild their entire judicial system. Its all about the $$ in Kalifornia and its all about getting it from trucks. A 4 week stint of NOT hauling their produce from the fields would change their minds.

Or we can keep paying the prices

It looks as if it is a go, 90 days and counting. About that Cali think, I agree with you bro, I thing they are to far gone! Protest tho I am not sure is the right way to handle them. Take care out there brother.

  5. Can’t wait til all 4 slow states (Cali, Oregon, Illinois and Ohio) repeal the speed limit. I sometimes do 62 in Illinois and the bears just sit there; they go after the 4 wheelers most of the time. But if I have any running lights out then I’m screwed. hasn’t happened yet but still, better safe than sorry…

  6. yeah its me Glen. your welcome for the post. just keep up the good work. hey did you hear about the rampage shooting in NY 14 dead before the gunman took his life! thats some crazy shit. hell you check this but not your saynow messeges. WTF lol take it easy bro.

I agree with empties being allowed to travel faster, but at the same time, unless you got a curtain sided truck, and the curtains are open for all to see, how is smokie going to know if your flouting the law, and that you are breaking the speed limit with a full load?

the other problem is with speed limiters, if they are set then do they set them to the highest speed limit, and drivers discretion to stick to the lower limit when loaded?

otherwise your going to be pulled over every 2 seconds by smokie’s wanting to make sure your empty. and that will take more time than driving at the lower speed limits.
