The Truth about trucking-Eskimo Sean

admin | July 5, 2009 | 134 Comments

stated by Sean on his description for the video:

Every trucker, with diesel in their veins, knows how hard the industry is. They also know, there’s nothing else they’d rather do. There is a time to step out of the truck, sometimes we may not heed the warning signs, but push that extra mile in. Eventually, it takes it’s toll.

The stresses of trucking lead to many health issues, From minor cases, that can change with habit or diet, to death. Most of you know John as Youtube user 18wheelsoffaith. 19 years on the road, countless miles under his belt. Each mile bringing him closer to today.

With past military stress, family issues, and everything that comes with driving, the stress has finally caught up. He is not a rare case. He is one of many drivers that crave the next mile. It’s what Trucking is all about.

All to often drivers in this situation are never noticed by the public. Another down fall of the ignorance towards Truckers and the industry. This video goes to all True Truckers, and by that, I don’t mean steering wheel holders you find in truck stops whining and complaining. I mean the ones who realize the lifestyle, the challenges, pitfalls, obstacles, hazards and still love the life.

But most of all, this video is for, and dedicated to John “big foot 18 wheeler” Blocker.
I thank him for his support, when I had to leave the lifestyle behind. Showing me from the other side what it’s like to move on.

  7. Trucking is a shitty job. I did it for 8 months. It was the biggest waste of my time and money(schooling). The $’s not very good unless you want to live on the road. Even then, soo depressing.

  8. seansuth says:

8 months huh? See this is the difference between being a TRUCKER, and driving a truck. TRUCKERS do in fact like to live on the road, hence a TRUCKER life. YOU, just thought there was quick cash at hand. Go back to flipping burgers, making minimum wage. 8 months, that’s not even considered driving a truck, that’s just tooling around!

  9. that sad man I feel bad for him yo

@oaklandraider81 thats your expiernce. Make sure you make that a point you are explaining somethingYou makes it sound as if everyone’s experience is like yours.Their is nothing wrong with excepting your not good at something.

  11. Yeah, my experience sucked. I didnt suck at it though. It was exciting in the beginning. Then it became boring. There are a lot more things to do with your life that being stuck in a box for weeks at a time. Also, ending up like Eskimo Sean is sad. I would like to live a healthy life beyond 60(average truckers life expectancy). Someones gotta do it though.

  12. their? or … thereexcepting? or… acceptingyour? or… you’reThere is nothing wrong with accepting you’re not good at something.

  13. Best of luck to you buddy.. hope everything goes well for you and the family… God Bless ya buddy…….I been a driver /equipment operator all my life and dont know what i’d do if I couldnt do it any more.. I can feel for you friend…

  14. justkiddin08 says:

  17. Best wishes to you and your family…… Look forward to running into u someday in the future………. Get better so you can get back on the road……KEEP ON TRUCKIN’…….

  18. VendettasD says:

Been considering on picking up trucking when I get out of the Military… Any recommendations?

  19. vtwinbreed says:

No jobs unless you got so many years experience, so you’re probably better off staying in mil

  20. truckerevan says:

I don’t know why people think it is so hard to be healthy while trucking, it is no different than a cubicle dweller in a office that sits all day too. Many of them that I see smoke, eat unhealthy, and are under a lot of stress also, but no one says stay away from office jobs, in fact we tell our kids to go to school get a education so you can get a office job like that running on that hamster wheel everyday. Dealing with office politics, long hours, and bullshit. Find your niche and excel at it.

  21. madflyer1093 says:

i hear you john. it’s one of those things that are so hard to give up. hang in there you will pull through.

  22. khunboris says:

Oh really like that man? No jobs for a new truckers? Does that mean you cannot start trucking form now, get the CDL? If you’re foreigner ever? Sad thing if so….

  23. khunboris says:

Sean…. I wanna ask you one think cause I believe you. Why people you mentioned – all those whiners and only steering wheel holders – why they do the thing then? Who are they? Canadians by birth (talking of Canada that I consider to move) or may be some of my damn co-citizens trying to remain there having lost everything back home country? It’s so likely for them…. trying to find a happier place but failed with trucking.

  24. khunboris says:

They must not be Canadians – Canadians should have some other choice if so. If you don’t like just quit am I wrong? Just try at least. There are ways, even now. I don’t understand….

  25. seansuth says:

@khunboris it doesn’t matter where they are from, or who they are. Some are just bitter, some just don’t think they can do better. Some were lied to, promised weath. But they don’t realize what driving is all about. They want the quick dollar, but money only comes with hard work. Trucking is what you make it. True, there is less and less money in it. But if you driver for the fun of it, meeting people, seeing the sights, you can make some money

  26. khunboris says:

Oh Yeah… trucking is definitely not a way for a quick dollar I think. But I cannot tell that sitting my ass of in the office much better though. There are a lot of whiners here too…. and the situation in whole… in country, in the World. There are some “friends” who can help to move to Canada as a truck driver, money wise for sure… I don’t know if I can trust them yet. It gotta be only a long-haul to be eligible to remain as a trucker for me as far as I heard.

  27. khunboris says:

Thanks for the answer Sean and good luck on the Ice Roads! Beautiful quiet places out there. And it is really nice to be able to contact a man like you even from the other side of the ocean!

  28. Sean everytime i see this Video bro brings a tear to the old eye .

  30. dennisia95 says:

  31. wi11y1960 says:

I was OTR for 5 months. Loved every minute of it, well there was one part in NY that gave me my grey hair, but otherwise it was one of the best experiences. I will return some day when conditions are better. Perhaps as a tank yanker. Then again I have to get my BMI down again.

  32. Hey people am 13 years old and I want to be truck driver… what do you think should i be a trucker or not

  33. wow, very sad. kinda at a loss for words. hope all is well, and everyone is back in good health and out on the highway again.

  34. @oaklandraider81 8 months; thats still a pup.. ive been driving for 4 years now, and im still a pup at only 24 years of age, ive clocked up just a tad over 800,000km… man, but i keep forgetting to take my camera to show the Australian sights

  35. eskimojo95 says:

do you think John will ever go back to trucking

  36. ive seen this like 5 times and it always makes my eyes water up.how john doing now?

  37. How is john doing i cant find his youtube paige.

  38. This is a sad video cause my dad got pulled off the road for a month about 5 years ago for stress, it was a hard time cause my family was depending on him and i wasnt old enough to work. Truckers are the hardest workers and they deserve more recognition and respect than they do now. Alot of people see them as bad guys and theyre not, atleast most of them, and Thank you truckers for everything yall do.

  39. wintersfaith says:

@seansuth some do it for money other do it for the fun for the thot of traveling and for the adventure i know when i can get behind i will be doing it with pride. i lost my uncle in a wreck 2 month ago and my cuzin isnt doing good i work in a mechanic shop i always just think hes there watching me when i jump in thos trucksand now u see people who just dont care anymore its sad to see one guy on the side of the road and others just go right on buy

  40. bykashka75 says:

    @muskey59 what did you do?

  41. Faztlan says:

    Mucho suerte adelante!

  42. @seansuth Amen to that brother. I am 23, been doing this for almost 5 years now, and I love every minute of every day of it. There is no better feeling then hauling, 40,000lbs of payload behind you. DOT can put as many restrictions they want, it wont kill my love for this industry and the open road.

  43. 1977F150408 says:

Great line brother “It’s not the end, just the turning of a page”. Life moves on, although not everyone wants it to happen. Trucking is a way of life. I started on the farm at 11 years old…bout the time I could reach the pedals haha! But, being a Marine 0311, always brings me back to the trucking buisness.

  44. 1977F150408 says:

Officially started 18 when I got my CDL, decided to enlist in the Marine Corps. Trucking may not have much money in it a lot of the time, but who cares. Any Marine or Soldier knows that money isnt everything.

  45. ZoeToots says:

Just watched this again. So touching. *sniff* John is sucha great guy. You are so kind to have helped him..

  46. seansuth says:

@ZoeToots If a friend doesn’t do all they can when someones down, their not a true friend

  47. lol u got a crapy volvo

  48. people should respect truck drivers because they are running the world .. without truckers the world will be dying so .. show some respect !

  49. scumbubbles1 says:
