PC Miler gps for truckers and ice road truckers too? WOW!

admin | June 12, 2010 | 176 Comments

PC miler gps a useful tool, not so much for ice road truckers however.

PC miler is a household name amongst truckers and trucking companies alike.  PC Miler also know as ALK Technologies is a  clear leader in  routing and mileage software for the trucking industry. ALK is a privately held company out of New Jersey which formed in 1979. They have revolutionized tracking, mapping, out of route variance for truckers in the trucking industry, from the small time independent trucker to the large trucking companies.

GPS for truckers over the last five years have become all the rage.

(I feel it is not necessary but can see how it would be a useful tool, I still don’t own one, old school perhaps?)

Alk Technologies entered the market full force of course. I have heard reports that the original devise for truckers failed to live up to its promise.

(unclear voice, low volume, horrible mapping, etc)

It seems that ALK Technologies must listen to their costumers because the reports on the newer gps units have been great. I have had the pleasure to run with a couple guys who owned the gps units, they seemed happy with the results.

I have seen some video recently that made me take a second look at this company, which is why I’m writing this article. As most of you know by now Trucker Steve is a partner for google who makes original video content about the trucking industry on youtube. There are many benefits to working with google to list a few.

  1. Superior search engine placement on youtube ( I dominate the front page for all search terms trucker, trucking etc. Not only above the fold but 50% of the results.)
  2. Brandable content , channel and view pages far beyond the common user. (sales and rents on my content as well)
  3. Analytics on my viewers that would blow your mind at the information google tracks (which helps me see what my audience likes or dislikes. The search terms trucker, trucking is watched over 6 million times a month I get 40,000 views a day on average.)
  4. access to internal information that will keep me creating content that lands on the front page.
  5. Not to mention the money, fame and hot women. ( I’m Kidding) not about the money or the women, lol.
  6. Proprietary Rights Over Uploaded Content
YouTube Partners own the copyrights & distribution rights to ALL of their own uploaded videos without exception. If you upload a video and are not a partner, YouTube has the right to manage and disseminate that video within youtube.com as they see fit.  Read more about youtube partners

To keep up with latest trends in my niche I watch as much video content as possible about the trucking industry. I couldn’t help but see this video and thought to myself  “WOW, this is a really pathetic promo video for PC miler, I hope they didn’t pay someone for this.”

The first thing I thought was ” Why and the #$#@ would they have a ice road trucker endorsing this product”  it don’t make much sense to me as if he would use it to begin with? When I looked at the gps for truckers by pc miler I never seen ice roads on the map. To me it seems really desperate, nothing against Alex Debogorski he seems like a decent guy.

The second thing I notice was right at the 32 second mark in the video. I was like “what!!! Oh no they didn’t” it is not uncommon to see videos on youtube with spelling errors but in a paid production? Please come on someone should be fired for over looking this and making PC MILER look bad.

The third thing I noticed was at the 50 second mark in the statement ” improving over all driver efficiency” I would say anyone that needs a GPS unit from pc miler to be efficient probably shouldn’t be in the trucking industry to begin with. It is a luxury not a necessity.

The forth thing I noticed. ” Avoid costly fines and tickets” How is that PC MILER? I have seen and heard many stories of drivers (all tho dumb) using your device and getting stuck on a route common sense should have told them not to take. I seen a guy using a PC MILER device who following under strict command of his GPS like it was GOD make a turn onto a rail road track of course after traveling across the ditch and getting smacked by a train.

GIVE ME A BREAK PC MILER ! I have more to say but the phoniness of this promo is pissing me off like they think where all dumb and can’t live with out them? PSSSSTTTT

  1. They live far north of Canada what do you expect. Northern Canadian accents are raw.

  2. stickwi2 says:

What happened next.. where is the next video!?!

  3. Finally some newer technology on the road. When was the Freightliner made, 1880? You can actually hear him speak when driving. Still no Scania but compared to americans, hell yeah.

  4. shit he was only 25 tonne my legal weight for a semi fully loaded is 42 tonnne so the ute (pickup for you americans) driver was very lucky

  5. impalaccc says:

In America their old trucks (kenworths) are from 70′s and they “new” trucks are from 80′s. Nowdays the brand new kenworths are including the same technology and panels, interiors, meters than they got in 70′-80′s. Luckily the TJ’s got nice touch into a new modern europian made comfort and smart truck that but’s every “oldschool” american truck driver smiles when have test driven it.

  6. lol “jesus h christ” and rick was pissed

No. LMAO that was the gayest diss i’ve ever heard. You think your cool don’t you?

  17. NCISFAN1954 says:

i guess the history channel needed something more exciting than a bunch of old men , now they have an arragant self centered woman driving now how boring!! She is not dooing anything but playing for the cameras.. showing off!!

  18. seoulstar says:

    @TRIXSTER03 …. I am cool. It’s minus 4 in my house.

  19. TRIXSTER03 says:

@seoulstar….wow… just when I thought you could not make yourself look more like a pathetic loser. Dumbass. It’s evdient your not cool at all. Your a poser. Work on your disses and comebacks.

  20. seoulstar says:

I think you should go back to English class. Check your spelling, my little virgin friend. It’s ‘you’re a poser’ and not ‘your a poser’. Also, may I ask what ‘evdient’ means?Listen, lose the chip on the shoulder and concentrate on school and then maybe, just maybe, you might be ready to lose your virginity. Until then, Cherry boy, keep on jerking off in your bedroom. Best wishes.

  21. TRIXSTER03 says:

@seoulstar—-My spelling is fine. In this case, your is the correct form to use because I am adressing you. You do not know what evident means? That’s sad. Grab a dictionary and look it up. Use what little brains you have to learn something. Concentrate on school? I am graduated and focusing on my career. What makes you think I am a virgin? Fucking prick. Get a life.

  22. seoulstar says:

@TRIXSTER03 No, it wasn’t correct. You should have used ‘you’re’ (as in you are) and yes, I know what evident means but that isn’t what you wrote is it? When all else fails resort to name calling. Now run along, Cherry, I think you’ve got some studying to do.You are definitely a virgin. It is so obvious.

  23. seoulstar says:

You claim that your spelling is fine and then in the very next sentence you fail to spell ‘addressing’ correctly. How do you feel about that?

  24. TRIXSTER03 says:

@seoulstar —It is, Is not not isn’t. That is not what I wrote? Yes, I wrote that it is evident. Evident means obvious or easy to understand. I said it’s evident that you are not cool at all.

  25. shut up leave the woman alone

  26. 2 Tralco123.. howzit mate, they don’t understand wot ya mean !!

  27. didn’t see this seies, did TJ get his arse kicked out of the volvo, and did he get his job back in the KENWORTH, (and did the bananas survive the accident) !!

  28. It surprises me that the company Lisa works for doesn’t review her driving tapes, she seems to be paying more attention to the camera than she does the road ahead, not a lot of common sense.

  29. Shadwell06 says:

@TruckinAussie unfortunetly they didn’t say anything about the bananas, think it was too much of a mushy story! they didn’t want to put in!!as for TJ then no, he wasn’t kicked out of the truck or off the ice, they did have the inspectors out, and to road test the vehicle, and found it was that the rubber on the brakelines had rolled up on itself, and caused the brake failure.

  30. Shadwell06 says:

@TruckinAussie but he did finish the season with the volvo, even though it had a re-designed front end, well they fixed the light, and grinded the hanging bumper.even though after think it was a week or two he got medivacd to hospital after arriving in lockheart semi concious, as the previous load the bar he was using to strap down a load with flung up, and hit him in the waist.but finished the full season once he had got the all clear from the medic’s.

  31. @Shadwell06 Thnx Champ, i should not have assumed it was TJ’s fault, although he did look to be slightly fast in the conditions, obviously the lad is coping ok tho, good to hear he finished the season, i saw where he injured himself, but couldn’t find any more, again THNX !

  32. 1:12 – trucking aint what it used to be. all truckers use to be buddies, now its all compitition. like a game with no teams.

  33. dcrooksjr says:

i drove one of those for swift, those volvos are nice. but im a cabover over nut. any companies out their that still run cabovers

  34. kanukster says:

Lisa might be nicer to look at than the others(her only reason for being on the show), but she can’t drive to save her life!!!

i love this ice road truckers

  46. blczz999 says:

Don’t need one, Don’t want one! Use good old Motor Carrier’s Atlas, and know how to read it!! Don’t need to avoid scales, cause I scale my loads BEFORE I roll and I’m legal when I roll!! If you can’t read a Motor Carrier’s Atlas, a paper map, a Thomas Guide, or a Truck Stop Directory – You don’t need to be in Trucking!! What’cha go’in do when ur GPS goes BLANK!! Your go’in “HAVE TO” go back to Motor Carrier’s Atlas, paper maps, and Thomas Guide Books. Besides I’ve got Google Maps on my lap-top, besides MS Streets & Trips, and I know which way I’m going BEFORE I roll. If you can’t roll WITHOUT a GPS what is the point of your being on the road? Do you know what the height limit was on the last over-pass you went under? Do you know where to pick-up a state permit for the state your going to be driving in? Better yet, did you call dispatch an advise them that you needed one? And if your out on the road driving a truck, your a graduate of the Rodney Allen Rippy School of Truck Driving!! And you need to go back to school an learn how to do things WITHOUT a GPS!! And these are the one’s that walk up to you at a Truck Stop with all kinds of questions, that should be asked of your dispatcher. NOT another truck driver!! And why do they do that? Cause they don’t want the Company that they just got hired on with to know JUST HOW LAME THAT THEY ARE AND THAT THEY CAN’T EVEN READ A PAPER MAP!! And once again I ask, and your out on the road driving a Big Rig? Your an accident waiting to happen!!

  47. Matt Hubble says:

I’m going to start this off with the same comment I left on the youtube.com video.
I will have to agree with whitelinefilms on his critics of this video.
    For 1 – The spelling.
For 2 – At the 1:01 frame it says in red “Avoid costly fines and vehicle damage.” OK I just want to say how is this GPS or any GPS for that manner going to allow this to happen? The fines maybe so, but vehicle damage? Come on, drivers should have the common sense not run into any low clearances. Wake up people geez.
For 3 – At 1:05 – Stress free is used. Yeah right is all I’m going to say. This job is just that. Stress full. So I guess this thing takes away all the heavy traffic in the northeast and it make you magically reappear at home with your wife and kids back in your arms huh? Wrong answer there Pedro.
Now as far as Alex driving on the concrete well I’m not going to say if he has or hasn’t. He’s been in this industry along time now so I’m not sure what he has done during his career. I have to agree with Steve that a GPS is luxury not a necessity. A map is a necessity. Laptops, GPS, and even a cell phone just to name a few are not necessities. When my dad drove the only things they had was a map, and CB. Phones were in the truck stops. So I agree once again, even though I’m planning on getting one, a GPS is not a necessity. Anyone who needs this device so they can maximize efficiency like this video declares does not need to be in this industry. They are a tool and should be used as one.

  48. Bitsybeans says:

@nickster1318 I agree. Volvos are the best trucks in the world.
