PC Miler gps for truckers and ice road truckers too? WOW!
PC miler gps a useful tool, not so much for ice road truckers however.
PC miler is a household name amongst truckers and trucking companies alike. PC Miler also know as ALK Technologies is a clear leader in routing and mileage software for the trucking industry. ALK is a privately held company out of New Jersey which formed in 1979. They have revolutionized tracking, mapping, out of route variance for truckers in the trucking industry, from the small time independent trucker to the large trucking companies.
GPS for truckers over the last five years have become all the rage.
(I feel it is not necessary but can see how it would be a useful tool, I still don’t own one, old school perhaps?)
Alk Technologies entered the market full force of course. I have heard reports that the original devise for truckers failed to live up to its promise.
(unclear voice, low volume, horrible mapping, etc)
It seems that ALK Technologies must listen to their costumers because the reports on the newer gps units have been great. I have had the pleasure to run with a couple guys who owned the gps units, they seemed happy with the results.
I have seen some video recently that made me take a second look at this company, which is why I’m writing this article. As most of you know by now Trucker Steve is a partner for google who makes original video content about the trucking industry on youtube. There are many benefits to working with google to list a few.
- Superior search engine placement on youtube ( I dominate the front page for all search terms trucker, trucking etc. Not only above the fold but 50% of the results.)
- Brandable content , channel and view pages far beyond the common user. (sales and rents on my content as well)
- Analytics on my viewers that would blow your mind at the information google tracks (which helps me see what my audience likes or dislikes. The search terms trucker, trucking is watched over 6 million times a month I get 40,000 views a day on average.)
- access to internal information that will keep me creating content that lands on the front page.
- Not to mention the money, fame and hot women. ( I’m Kidding) not about the money or the women, lol.

To keep up with latest trends in my niche I watch as much video content as possible about the trucking industry. I couldn’t help but see this video and thought to myself “WOW, this is a really pathetic promo video for PC miler, I hope they didn’t pay someone for this.”
The first thing I thought was ” Why and the #$#@ would they have a ice road trucker endorsing this product” it don’t make much sense to me as if he would use it to begin with? When I looked at the gps for truckers by pc miler I never seen ice roads on the map. To me it seems really desperate, nothing against Alex Debogorski he seems like a decent guy.
The second thing I notice was right at the 32 second mark in the video. I was like “what!!! Oh no they didn’t” it is not uncommon to see videos on youtube with spelling errors but in a paid production? Please come on someone should be fired for over looking this and making PC MILER look bad.
The third thing I noticed was at the 50 second mark in the statement ” improving over all driver efficiency” I would say anyone that needs a GPS unit from pc miler to be efficient probably shouldn’t be in the trucking industry to begin with. It is a luxury not a necessity.
The forth thing I noticed. ” Avoid costly fines and tickets” How is that PC MILER? I have seen and heard many stories of drivers (all tho dumb) using your device and getting stuck on a route common sense should have told them not to take. I seen a guy using a PC MILER device who following under strict command of his GPS like it was GOD make a turn onto a rail road track of course after traveling across the ditch and getting smacked by a train.
GIVE ME A BREAK PC MILER ! I have more to say but the phoniness of this promo is pissing me off like they think where all dumb and can’t live with out them? PSSSSTTTT

@mysweeteventhorizon Unfortunately, this show has solved the driver shortage for a true bottom feeding trucking company who’s reputation for garbage equipment, incompetent management and low pay preceded them from Vancouver to Halifax: RTL Robinson (now owned by another group of bottom feeding rate cutters, the Tri West Group which includes such industry superstars as WestCan and Pauls Hauling) The best advice to the rookie….go logging or oil-patch and stay away from these low rent clowns.
@mysweeteventhorizon For a young guy coming into the trucking industry the highway (iceroad) is a dream and family killer designed for talentless wanna-bes.In Alberta look to the oil-patch with decent companies like Mullen, Formula-Powell, Swanberg, PeBen or some of the smaller fluid hauling companies where a good driver easily makes over 100 k per year. Or go logging(avoid other rip off artists and gougers like Plains, Enermax, Gibson Energy, RBS Bulk, Chief and Trimac to name a few)

One time I was hookin along across Westbound I-40 in New Mexico & a pretty gal driver passed me in the “hammer”! She was followed by 1/2 dozen trucks who all swarmed round her further on up the “40″ jabber jawin with her on the CB. It was quite funny & she was lovin the attention!

I could here the them from 10 miles back doin their thing all the way up 40 for the next 50 miles or better. Yeah, she was “doin her job” but she was also “dishing it out” as well as recieving it”! Ice Road Truckers is a cool show. At least its making the public appreciate the effort that goes into delivery of all the goods they use in everyday life.
I’m with you steve on old fashioned map books though at times when suddenly detoured by accidents gps maps would be nice. We had a gps system in our fleet to claim back off road highway tax but half the time it never works properly. You need to spend money on the high quality ones as all are sensitive to electrical noise/interfence.

And “I never chain up” Hugh is a jackass. All he does is take advantage of the guys who do chainup. The guys who do chew up the road creating traction and making is safer for everybody. Last I checked…this was about GPS and their ad. GPS, convenience, for sure, but unreliable. I do like the new Rand Deluxe Laminated Maps. GPS helps to see smaller streets. We have a simple car GPS and only use it to see smaller streets and check speed on occasions. Its come in handy with calculating milage, but that can also be done by reading a map. So, i give you Kudos on your Post Steve. Everyone doggin Lisa, grow up. Childish minds judge those whom they envy. Have a good one y’all!

Lisa does not have to prove her abilities to anyone. Missing gears is a part of being a trucker, we all do it now and then, and at times, it is embarrassing. Anyone who denies “missing a shift,” is living in a fantasy world. You saw Lisa having a problem with “Hi & Low-Range” transitions, but it is not an ongoing problem. She is an excellent driver, and floats those 18 gears smoothly..
Lisa is not too proud to ask questions, and Jack has been there to help Lisa when she needed it. Jack is a damn good driver. I drove local for a year or two in the 5 boroughs of N.Y.C. as well as Long Island pulling a 48’-102,” and under those conditions shifting is continuous, literally. I never considered trucking as a form of competition, i.e., who has the most difficult road conditions etc… Each of us has our own stories to tell.. “Snowman II”

Hugh was nothing short of a selfish self-centered pinhead, who only cared about #1. As truckers we have come across addlebrained drivers such as him from time to time, of that I have no doubt. He is not even worth mentioning.
@rmorroccoli1 Point taken sir. It’s nothing personal to Lisa. Based on what iv’e seen in the tv program that road is far too dangerous for her. She still has her training wheels on HOWEVER I think she has the potential to be a competent trucker in future. A good attitude is everything. Its what all experience is built on and that is what she has in abundance. And yes she is smart because she asks questions and is willing to learn.

I realize when someone sees Lisa for the first time, they are in disbelief as to what she is doing. On the ice roads Lisa has run explosives, oversized loads, and she has been active in “Push Truck” operations on the ice roads as well. She has handled commodities in the “Heavy Haul Division” of Carlile Transportation out of their Fairbanks facility, of which many drivers never see; such as Pipe in 80 ft. lengths on a super-stretch trailer from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay.
She has changed flat tires, which in one instance was seen on “IRT Deadliest Roads” while trucking in the Himalayas in India. Lisa also hauls “Doubles.” We as truckers know that learning within the Domain of trucking never ends, it remains ongoing, and always will be….No one knows how many more trucking associated responsibilities Lisa deals with in her every day life.
She is happily married and I can honestly state that Lisa has more than earned the respect of truckers everywhere, who have seen her. Lisa is no rookie, She has been driving for seven years, and likes the work she is doing. As truckers we all ask for help from time to time, and of that I have No Doubt. It is time to give this little lady the respect she more than deserves. Lisa is one hell of a driver !!….“Snowman II”….
