What size motor is in a 1973 F100 custom truck? or Where do i look on the motor to find out?

Question by Dr. P: What size motor is in a 1973 F100 custom truck? or Where do i look on the motor to find out?
I looked in my book and it said the serial is under the starter??is that where i look all i found was a serial code xxxx-xxxx-xx is that is but it was on the exaust pipe by the starter.

well if its a 6 cyl then its prob a 250 or a 270 ci if its a v-8 its probably a 302 or a 289 prob aint a 390 since its a f100

    Take the vehicle ID# from your registration to the dealership. They can tell you.

    Try looking on the radiator support, usally Ford will put some of the specifications for the engine there including the engine size.

    If its a v-8 it could be a 289,302,351 or 390.Search Google to see if you can find out.There should be a number stamped on side of block or do a title search with state.

    The easy way to tell V-8′s is by the valve cover bolts. The 302 has six the 390 has five.

    6 cylinder is a 240 cid
    8 cylinder is a 302 cid, or a 360 cid
