    Near Virginia City, Nevada.

  4. Dennis Dixson says:

I’ve been there too. I have a feeling that I have a photo of this truck around here somewhere.

Anyhow, I like it a lot and it makes me happy to see it again. Good work.

It’s about a mile outside of town up on a hill.

There was an idea in there, but the focal point is too much disturbing, I can’t see where the subject is, unless rust, I can’t found anything else.
But considering this is rust, the composition is well choosen, colors are realistic, and the DOF is good, This is very well done

been looking long at it and thinking if the centered tree in the back is disturbing or not ;-) but after the looking real intense to it, i truly have to rule five it
From the MiRea’s Realm Group, you are given a 7/7 ranking.

Seen next to a fellow photo of MiRea’s Realm – (RTFR – Read the Flippin’ Rules!). (?)

  15. MaiKoh says:

I really like your thinking with the division of this composition. The blurry background really is quite lovely against the massive rusty tractor-thingie in the foreground. The only thing that I find distracting is the DoF. For me, the thing that really makes this photo (besides your awesome use of compositional emphasis and subordination) is the rust, and because of this, I just wish there were a bit more focus in the foreground so that I could really see the paint peeling! Besides that…great job!!!

From the MiRea’s Realm Group, you are given a 6/7 ranking.

The DoF makes the upper left corner the focus of this shot while I would have preferred the bottom left.

From the MiRea’s Realm Group, you are given a 5/7 ranking.

  17. Oliver Lavery says:

Interesting subject. The sort of bucolic environment versus the steel and rust is quite nice.

The focus in this shot is in totally the wrong place though. The sharp part of the image is a tiny bit of metal off in the distance, while the foreground and background are both very soft. It would have worked best I think focused on that wierd satellite-dish shaped bit of metal, and with a dof large enough that the foreground is sharp as well.

I love the idea here, but the execution doesn’t quite work, sorry.

From the MiRea’s Realm Group, you are given a 4.5/7 ranking.

Well I agree with everyone that this is a nice idea. However a number of things bug me about it, the DOF is very limiting, fails to emphisise the strong points of the shot, i.e. the direct lines of the truck versus the horizontal lines of the fence, overexposure on top LHS. I also find the colors somewhat visually unapealing, but thats just a personal thing. I think trying this in dark, low saturation or dark high contrast B&W might help with some of the problems.

Nice one, Sara! I’m glad it made it to the Upper Chamber! I really like the composition, the form of the truck side, the contrasts between the rusty yellows & browns & the green, & between the textures of the two distinct parts of the photo – & I love that bolt or whatever, that hints at a cowboy’s hat, a rodeo on a rusty mount?!

  22. EssjayNZ says:

Thanks Anduze, I am glad you like the hat like piece, it makes me smile when I see it and I think of cowboy hats, I love the idea of "a rodeo on a rusty mount!"
