It is always possible, train and get beat. Burn out is mental. The only one who can answer your question the person who asked him! The answer depends on your level of commitment, motivation and mental toughness.

no, it wouldn’t unless you push yourself too hard. If you are training during the summer you will be that much ahead of everyone else during the season. catch my drift? keep training & don’t forget stretching and all that good stuff too
it also depends on what shape you are in now. if you are just sitting around now doing 20 miles a week will probably result in burnout. if you have been running and are in good shape you can easily do more than that. during the summer don’t worry about speed just gradually get your distance per week up.
if you really have a passion for running then you won’t “burn out” mentally
but u really have to be careful that you don’t get hurt, and don’t push yourself too hard, i did that and mid way through the season completley messed up my hip, my times went up by about a minute so be sure u stretch REALLY good
It shouldn’t. You’ll definitely peak earlier in the season than your teammates who do not train in the summer, but that’s not a bad thing. It can be discouraging later in the season when you’re not dropping time like everyone else, but it sure helps to have runners on a team who are already in shape and running well to start the season off. You’ll be a big asset to your team if you do this. Just enjoy getting ready for the season; don’t train as rigorously as you will during season and give yourself a lot of rest. I’d recommend running 3-4 days a week and doing a light strength workout 1-2 days a week. If your coach hasn’t given you a summer workout, send me an e-mail and I’ll help you come up with one!
If you are concerned about a burnout, then that means it is in your mind and could possibly happen. First, be sure you are taking at least a day off a week. Second, vary your terrain and where you run. It makes it a lot better. Also, just make sure you’re not overtraining. Instead of going that extra 3 miles, head to the fitness club and get on an elliptical trainer for 25 minutes. Or swim. I know its not as good as running and maybe not as fun but it will make every run seem more worthwhile.
If your coach allows it, run some 5Ks this summer to keep things fresh.
